A knife-wielding woman, who was threatening residents at a block of flats in Mayville yesterday, was arrested after Blue Security armed response officers and the police responded to the scene.
The arrest was one of five that Blue Security officers and the police made across the city at the weekend.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said residents alerted the company’s control centre to the incident at around 2.30pm yesterday.
“An armed response officer and the police responded to the scene where the woman had been captured on video camera, going from door to door, threatening residents with a large knife. She eventually locked herself in the bedroom of an apartment and a friend had to climb through a window above the internal door to get her out. Police arrested the woman for her own safety and took her in custody to the Mayville police station. No injuries were reported,” Mathios said.
Mathios said an alleged shoplifter was arrested on the corner of Boscombe Road and Sylvester Ntuli Road on the beachfront after she stole a pair of slops from a shop. The incident occurred at around noon yesterday. “The officer responded to the scene of the crime, tracked the suspect down and recovered the shoes. The suspect was handed over to Durban Central SAPS members at the scene,” Mathios said.
Armed response officers who responded to the scene of a theft in Ethelbert Road in Malvern arrested two suspects, who had allegedly stolen two chairs valued at around R5 000 from a property. “The officers patrolled the area and managed to track down the two suspects who they spotted walking along the road carrying the chairs. They arrested the suspects and handed over to the Malvern Police at the scene,” Mathios said.
Mathios said in a fourth incident in Shepstone Road in Athlone Park, an armed response officer arrested an alleged housebreaker after he gained entry into a property at around 5.30pm on Saturday. “The suspect climbed over a back wall and broke a window before forcing open a burglar guard to gain entry into the house. When our officer arrived at the scene, he spotted the suspect climbing out over the back wall. He gave chase and managed to arrest him,” Mathios said.
The suspect was handed over to the Amanzimtoti police at the scene.
