Armed Response

What’s the weirdest law you’ve ever heard of? We bet dying being illegal isn’t one of them! It’s true – in Longyearbyen, a remote town in the Arctic, it’s illegal to die and you will be booted to a different part of Norway should you be found to be gravely ill. Due to the permafrost the bodies don’t decompose, causing the graveyard to stop accepting newcomers 70 years ago.
In Oklahoma, it’s illegal to have a sleeping donkey in your bathtub after 7pm, but at any other time throughout the day it will be acceptable. If you understand this, please let us know.
By law, in Canada, one out of every five songs on the radio must be sung by a Canadian. Great for Justin Bieber fans, not so great for everyone else.
Flushing the toilet in an apartment block after 10pm is illegal in Switzerland, as their Government considers it noise pollution. Guess you’re going to have to use the rule of thumb, if it’s yellow let it mellow, if it’s brown… oh wait!
A smile goes a mile in Milan, Italy. Well, it’s forced to. Their law states that it’s a legal requirement to smile at all times, except during funerals or hospital visits. Frowners could face a hefty fine.
Life in Singapore revolves around good behaviour, cleanliness and perfection. How is that achieved? By banning chewing gum, of course. The ban remains one of the best-known aspects of life in Singapore, along with the country’s laws against litter, graffiti, jaywalking, spitting, and urinating anywhere but in a toilet (if it’s a public toilet, you are legally required to flush it).
Taking the fight against illegal gambling quite serious, Greece banned all electronic games in public places. Whether you’re attempting to gamble online on the sly, or just want to play some innocent online chess at your local Internet café, you’re in for some trouble.
In Germany, a pillow is considered as a passive weapon. Be careful when you engage a German in a pillow fight, as you could very well be charged with assault.
