Blue Celebrates Success Against Crime in Upper Highway

Did you know that Blue Security’s Central Region Operations on the ground teams have been on a successful streak in 2023, making significant strides in combating crime in and surrounding the Greater Upper Highway area?

We celebrate our impressive Armed Response Officers (AROs) and Community Crime Prevention Unit (CCPU) achievements in the first half of 2023. With our mission to create safe, thriving communities, we proactively partner with stakeholders, including Neighbourhood Watches and Community Policing Forums, to combat crime effectively.

The Reaction teams have contributed significantly to the fight against crime in and surrounding the Greater Upper Highway area. A strategic approach involving collaboration with law enforcement agencies and installing over 100 SNIPR Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras has further strengthened Blue’s crime-fighting capabilities.

These cutting-edge ANPR cameras, strategically placed in key locations, including the latest setup in Hillcrest, have become a critical asset in tracking and intercepting criminals. Their success is evident in the impressive statistics of 43 successful crime-related incidents where goods were recovered and suspects apprehended. Additionally, 10 hijacked/stolen vehicles were successfully recovered in the greater Highway area, with eight located using Blue’s technology partner SNIPR’s ANPR cameras.

The CCPU, consisting of an elite tactical team, works with law enforcement agencies, complementing the efforts of our AROs. This collaboration has successfully apprehended 46 suspects involved in various crimes, ranging from home invasion and hijacking to drug dealing, Cash in Transit, and ATM robberies.

Alex Strydom, Regional Director in the Central Region at Blue Security, expressed immense pride in the accomplishments of the entire regional team. He credited the team’s dedication, vigilance, and unwavering support of the community and valued stakeholders as driving forces behind their success.

Beyond providing excellent security services and solutions, Blue Security’s partnership with the community goes deeper. The CCPU’s proactive approach and Community Management engagement, combined with the involvement of community safety groups like Community Policing Forums (CPFs) and Neighbourhood Watches (NHW), has proven to be a game-changer in crime prevention.

Brett Beket, a resident of the Highway area and Community Manager for the Central Region, emphasised the significance of fostering strong relationships with community networks. Through this approach, Blue Security gains an authentic understanding of the area and the crimes affecting the community, enabling targeted and effective responses.

Richard Hipkin, Chairman of Crestwatch Crestholme Neighbourhood Watch, praised Blue Security for their long-standing partnership, which has significantly reduced crime. Being in a Blue Zone allows for immediate reaction times and higher success rates in crime reduction.

Lyndon Gray, Chairman of the Waterfall Street Patrol, commended Blue Security for uniting communities. “We work in an integrated way to displace crime from all our neighbouring communities. I would recommend more communities join Blue because they are not just a crime-fighting operation, but a community organisation that endeavours to bring communities together to fight crime,” Gray said.

“Communities are at the heart of our business, and we are humbled by the community’s support and trust in us,” Strydom concluded. Blue Security urges other communities to join hands in creating safer neighbourhoods and experience the benefits of strong partnerships in combating crime effectively.

Blue remains at the forefront of technology and innovation as an organisation committed to our vision of seeing active, engaged communities living free from fear.
