Armed Response

Johan Steyn has handed himself over to authorities after a video of the man aggressively driving over a security guard in the parking lot of a Stellenbosch grocery store and driving away has gone viral.
WARNING: FOOTAGE NOT FOR SENSITIVE VIEWERS
Before the incident occurred, the security guard is seen walking around keeping an eye on the cars in the parking lot.
When Steyn had done what he needed to do at the shops, he hopped back into his vehicle and started reversing out of the parking bay. However he was going the wrong way up a one-way road, completely ignoring the arrows painted on the road.
The white Citi golf behind the Opel Corsa bakkie was also seen going the wrong way, potentially in-an-attempt to zap the soon-to-be empty parking bay.
While the Citi golf is seen waiting to enter the parking bay, the security guard walking around the parking lot is seen communicating the fact that Steyn was exiting the parking bay the wrong way and needed to correct his actions.
With the Citi golf driver still behind the Corsa bakkie manouvering his vehicle to squeeze past Steyn’s car and into the parking bay as well as a SUV starting to come down the one way (the right way) this ended up causing a minor traffic-jam in the parking lot.
The security guard insisted that Steyn turn his vehicle around to exit the parking bay the right way. Without any concern of who would see him, Steyn relentlessly and unlawfully drove straight over the security guard without any hesitation or regard for the man’s life.
Thankfully the security guard has been discharged from the hospital.
Magistrate Alaric Amos granted Steyn R2 000 bail after defence lawyer Bruce Hendricks argued that Johan Steyn was not a flight risk and would abide by all bail conditions.
Due to Johan Steyn being deemed “not a flight risk” the matter has been postponed to June 27 for further investigation.
