Armed Response

Some of us have the 14th of February stored in our brains as a very important date to give our partners extra TLC, while others only notice that Valentine’s day is near when the hearts, candles, chocolates and flowers take over the entire front entrance of every super market.
If you haven’t managed to come up with a plan to make the day a tad more special for your other half, we’ve got you covered with these five tips.
Just remember, most people are not actually phased about the present you give them, it’s more about the thought and effort that goes into the gift/action that counts.
1. Give your partner a present as soon as they wake up – Don’t do that whole “I’m going to pretend like I forgot and leave them wondering the whole day and surprise him/her when they get home”. Instead of letting your partner question if you remembered (which isn’t a nice feeling) rather let them go through the day knowing that from the outset you gave Valentine’s day some thought.
2. Send them a few messages throughout the day – A lot of us get really busy at work and will only talk to our partner when we get back home from work or are just leaving the office. Switch it up and send your partner one or two cute messages to let them know that you’re thinking about them.
3. Restaurant bookings full? Order food from a restaurant and pick it up on your way home from work – If the idea of cooking on Valentine’s day is not ideal for you, think about which restaurants you and your partner have been to that you both really enjoyed, phone the restaurant and see if they will be able to do a “call-and-collect” in the afternoon. Seeing restaurants are overcrowded on Valentine’s day find out how much notice they would need in order to have the food ready by the time you are ready to collect it after work.
(PS. Don’t forget to order desert!)
4. Find a picture of you and your partner and get it framed – You’d be surprised by how many pictures you have on your phone or on Facebook of the two of you that you’ve forgotten about . Buy a frame after work today and send a printing company an email with the chosen image attached with the dimensions of the frame and ask them to print it for you. Then, you can collect the print on Wednesday to have the framed picture ready for Thursday.
5. Write your partner a letter and read it to them – Even though actions speak louder than words the act of reading out how much you appreciate, love and care for your significant other can truly mean the world to them. After being married for many years, or simply living together for a long period of time, we tend to become engulfed by the every day hustle of life and can forget to remind that extra special person in our life just how much they mean to us. Thursday will be the perfect opportunity to do just that. Write about your happiest moments together, the things you love most about them and all the memories you look forward to making in the days and years to come.
You don’t have to go all out and make Valentine’s day super spiffy and glamorous, it’s more about the thought and time that counts not the money spent and the gifts purchased.
