Armed Response

Blue Security armed response officers and the police apprehended four suspects including alleged car thieves caught on Morningside CCTV cameras, and an armed gang member, following several incidents at the weekend.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said an armed response officer responded to an incident in Morningside where two suspects were attempting to break into a vehicle. The incident occurred at around 7.50pm.
“The suspects were spotted on a CCTV surveillance camera breaking into a vehicle. Our officer then tracked the suspects down to Sandile Thusi Road where he apprehended them. He handed the suspects over to the Berea SAPS when the owner of the vehicle arrived at the scene,” Mathios said.
Mathios said that in a second incident a vigilant armed response officer arrested a suspect, who was believed to be connected to a shooting incident, in Pinetown at around 1.50pm on Saturday. He said the shooting had occurred outside a nightclub after a fight had broken out in the early hours of the morning.
“The two men then allegedly jumped into their vehicle, a blue VW Golf, and fired three shots into the air as they sped away from the scene. No injuries were reported,” he said. “One of our officers later noticed the same car parked on the side of the road and alerted SAPS to the scene. The police took one of the suspects to the police station for questioning, although the two men had denied any involvement in the earlier incident.”
In a third incident an alleged robber was arrested after a gang of three suspects held up a cashier at a business premises in Shallcross at around 10.30am on Sunday. “Three suspects arrived and held up a cashier at gun point, forcing her to open the entrance gate. The cashier pressed a panic alarm and our officer responded to the scene where he arrested one of the suspects. The other two suspects managed to flee the scene on foot,” he said.
