Motorist arrested at petrol station for fuel theft

A quick thinking petrol attendant and supervisor arrested a motorist for allegedly stealing petrol at the pump, in one of several fuel theft cases reported to Blue Security over the past week.
Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said the motorist was arrested at a petrol station in South Coast Road last Wednesday. “The motorist filled his vehicle with R500 worth of petrol and simply refused to pay. The petrol attendant and his supervisor promptly arrested him and handed him over to the Metro Police,” he said.
Jackson warned petrol station owners in the Highway area to be on the lookout for a maroon coloured Renault with an ND registration plate, after a motorist had allegedly filled up at a petrol station in Pinetown and Westmead and refused to pay. “He filled up with just under R400 worth of petrol at a petrol station in Westmead and fled without paying. A few days later he then went on to a different garage in Pinetown to fill up with another R400 worth of petrol, and again fled without paying.”
The petrol station managers had reported the cases to the police. “Petrol stations and security companies will not tolerate this blatant theft, and will do whatever we can to bring these perpetrators to book.”
Jackson advised petrol station owners to take precautions such as installing CCTV cameras on their forecourts to capture registration numbers of vehicles and to ensure staff were adequately trained on how to reduce the risk of fuel theft.
