Armed Response

A Mount Vernon resident was fortunate to have his mountain bikes returned to him on Sunday morning, by Blue Security reaction officers, before he had even noticed that they were missing!
“Our units were patrolling the Umhlatuzana area when they noticed two men walking along the road with two mountain bikes, in a suspicious manner, at around 7am on Sunday morning,” said Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios.
“When questioned, the suspects first said they had found the bikes in a park in Hillary. They then changed their story and divulged the bikes’ initial location to a home in Stella Road, Mount Vernon,” Mathios said. “On being contacted the resident checked his garage and discovered that his mountain bikes had indeed disappeared. He also produced photographic evidence to confirm that the bikes belonged to him,” Mathios said. “The bike-owner was taken to the suspects’ location where he again confirmed that the bikes in question were his. The suspects were arrested and handed over to members of Bellair SAPS for further processing,” Mathios said.
Another quick response from a Blue Security reaction officer on Friday morning resulted in the apprehension of a theft suspect in Morningside, Durban.
“The incident occurred shortly before 8am when a request went out to conduct a patrol of the neighbourhood in the Rapson Road area,” Mathios said.
“A description was relayed of a man who had been seen removing an extension power cable from the garage of one of the houses,” he said. “One of the patrolling reaction officers soon spotted a suspect, fitting the description, walking along the road carrying two plastic bags. On questioning the man on the contents of the bags, it was revealed that the extension cord was hidden inside,” he said. The suspect was immediately placed under arrest. The complainant arrived shortly afterwards and positively identified the stolen item,” he said. The suspect was handed over to Berea SAPS and charged with damage to property and theft.
A third successful arrest by Blue Security followed an attempted armed robbery at a retail store in Greyville on Sunday.
“The incident occurred when a customer re-entered a store after buying a bottle of cough mixture. He claimed that he had forgotten the item and wanted it or his money refunded,” Mathios said. “Events escalated when the suspect suddenly produced a knife and attempted to rob the cashier,” Mathios said. “The suspect was apprehended and handed over to SAPS members who attended the scene. Fortunately no-one was injured and no damage caused during the incident,” Mathios said.
