West Riding Suspects Arrested Thanks to NHW and Blue’s CCPU

The eagle eye of a neighbourhood watch member and the cooperation of a local community played an important part in Friday’s successful arrest, of three theft suspects, in the West Riding area.
“The incident began when the Blue Security’s Community Crime Prevention Unit (CCPU) received information on Friday, that three suspects had been spotted removing roof sheeting from a neighbour’s property,” said Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios.
“The concerned neighbour, who witnessed the incident and observed the suspects making their way to a nearby informal settlement, set the chain of events in motion by quickly contacting the West Riding Neighbourhood Watch,” Mathios said.
“The Neighbourhood Watch immediately circulated the information to the Blue Security Community Crime Prevention Unit (CCPU) who sprung into action and raced to the scene. On arrival, they were informed of the direction the suspects had taken plus other various leads and details. The three men had been observed carrying the stolen roof sheeting towards an informal settlement some 800 metres away,” he said.
“Having to negotiate uneven territory, the CCPU made its way into the nearby informal settlement with one of the West Riding controllers. With the assistance of residents of the settlement, leads were followed and the suspects were located, identified and apprehended,” he said.
“The Blue Security CCPU were also successful in finding the stolen sheeting still in the suspects’ possession. Additional resources arrived and the detained suspects were then handed over to Hillcrest SAPS for the necessary processing. The success of this arrest highlights the importance of good communication between security resources and the community. The assistance of the West Riding Community Watch at the scene, was invaluable,” said Mathios.
