Armed Response

A robbery of thousands of Rands worth of expensive liquor and computer equipment was foiled in New Germany by Blue Security armed response officers in the early hours of Saturday morning.
“Blue Security armed-response units had reacted, just after 3am, to a guard activation from a wine distribution client based in New Germany,” said Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios.
“The suspects had double-locked the main gate complicating access to the property thus requiring the officers to find an alternative entry point,” he said. “As one officer approached he observed the suspects still in the process of loading case lots of expensive alcohol onto a trolley-bed which was being prepared to transport additional cases of liquor to a collection point,” he said.
“It was also established that the onsite security guard had been tied up with a suspect standing over him. Unsure whether or not the suspect was armed, a reaction officer immediately ordered him to surrender. As soon as he obliged the onsite guard stood up and assisted the armed response officer in handcuffing the suspect,” Mathios said.
“In the meanwhile another reaction officer had discovered that two other suspects had already broken into and entered the premises. Laptops, computer screens and computer boxes had already been loaded into a green garbage bin,” he said. “The suspects scattered in different directions in an effort to evade capture,” he said.
“One suspect disappeared through the hole in the fence, which had initially been cut to gain entry, and down into the riverbed. The second suspect surrendered and was successfully detained,” he said.
“The two suspects were handed over to members of Pinetown SAPS while a third suspect, who was armed, remains at large. “Multiple cases of liquor were recovered and handed back to the business owner who arrived at the scene shortly after the initial alarm was raised. A case of armed robbery has been opened. Investigations are continuing,” he said.
