Armed Response

Working together with the police and residents there were nine suspects arrested, including alleged trespassers, cable thieves and housebreakers in a six day period in the Highway area.
Blue Security managing director Henk van Bemmelen said the arrests had been made in Crestholme, Westville and New Germany. “A pair of alleged cable thieves, a man and a woman, was arrested in New Germany in the early hours of Saturday morning after they allegedly cut the overhead power cable in Janine Road. They were handed over to the Pinetown SAPS who attended the scene of the crime.” he said.
Van Bemmelen said later in the evening an alleged trespasser who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol was arrested on a property in Buckingham Terrace in Westville. He was released on a warning on instruction of the property owner.
He said in Crestholme at 5am on Friday morning Waterfall 3 Neighbourhood Watch members and an armed response officer who responded to the scene arrested two alleged trespassers on a property in Nzinga Drive. “Hillcrest SAPS attended the scene of the crime. One of the suspects was injured and had to be taken to Kwadabeka Clinic for treatment,” he said.
In another incident later in the afternoon a shoplifter was apprehended in Livingstone Road in Pinetown. Pinetown SAPS attended the scene of the crime
“A business housebreaking was averted in Pineside Road in New Germany when a worker on night shift duty noticed a gang in a silver Runx arrive at the gate premises and activated a panic button. The gang managed to derail the driveway gate but fled when the worker sounded the alarm.” he said. “However officers from the Pinetown SAPS who were patrolling the area spotted them and gave chase, arrested two suspects,” he said.
Van Bemmelen said in other arrests an armed response officer had chased and arrested a housebreaker in Newbury Drive in New Germany, while a robber was arrested in Shepstone Road near New Germany Primary School after two men held up a pedestrian up at knife point and fled with his cellphone. “One of our patrolling officers saw the incident take place in broad daylight and he and the victim then chased the robbers and the victim managed to arrest one of the men who was then handed over to the Pinetown SAPS at the scene,” he said.
Van Bemmelen said the arrests showed that law abiding citizens and law enforcers were fed up with high crime levels and determined to bring criminals to book.
“We will continue to be vigilant and to work closely with residents and the police to rid our neighbourhoods and business precincts of criminals, so people can feel safe in their homes and workplaces again,” he said.
