Protective petrol attendant’s act of kindness restores faith in humanity

Protective petrol attendant's act of kindness restores faith in humanityPetrol attendant, Nkosikho Mbele (28), gave South Africans everywhere hope when his act of kindness kept a young woman safe.
Monet Van Deventer (21), was travelling on the N2 in Cape Town when she realised she was running low on petrol. She stopped at the Ultra City False Bay garage to fill up, but quickly realised that she had forgotten her card at home and told Nkosikho not to put petrol into her tank.
Not wanting her to run out of petrol on this dark and early morning, Nkosikho gave her R100 petrol and paid for it with his own money. Without taking her details, he told her “…you can’t run out of petrol on the N2. I’ll give you R100 then you can just bring back my R100 whenever you’re here again.”
Nkosikho has since become a local celebrity, following a Facebook post made by Monet on 30 May. In the post, Monet shares the story of Nkosikho’s selfless act, thanking him and encouraging people to donate funds to the crowdfunding campaign she set up for him. The goal was to raise R100 000, however, an astounding total of R500 464.26 was donated.
Nkosikho plans to use this money on looking after his family of five, studying further and to better the lives of street children. In order to avoid him becoming a target, the crowdfunding managers stated that Nkosikho will not receive this money directly. Rather, crowdfunding will themselves directly pay for the purchases Nkosikho wishes to make.
