Handbag safety: Tips to keep their hands off of your belongings.

Something we would all rather avoid is getting our belongings stolen from us. If you don’t use a handbag, send this to someone who does.
Here are some helpful tips to take into consideration when it comes to keeping your valuables safe while out and about in public areas.

6 Tips to keep your handbag and belongings safe while out and about:

  1.  This is an obvious one but I am so surprised how often I still see people doing it. Don’t leave your valuables lying around in a shopping trolley or basket. Thieves are opportunistic and are more likely to find a quick steal that could go unnoticed by a distracted victim rather than causing a commotion to try and steal your possessions out of your hands.
  2. Buy pants or tops with buttoned or zipped pockets so that when you go into the shops, all you need to take with you is your wallet and your cellphone while keeping them secured in your pockets.
  3. If you have a handbag and need to use a public loo, refrain from putting your bag on the floor. One, germs are gross and two, you might just find a wondering hand quickly invading your stall, snatching your bag when you don’t even have your pants on, leaving you unable to chase after the perpetrator. Avoid this event by making use of the lock on the bathroom door and hanging your bag strap from it.
  4. If you are sitting at an outdoor restaurant, be wary of hedges and pot plants. It is so easy for someone to stick their hand through the shrubbery to take your possessions and make a quick getaway.
  5. When eating out at a restaurant, don’t leave your handbag lying on the floor. If you have no choice but to do such, make sure that you have the strap underneath one of the legs of your chair so that you will feel a jolt if someone attempts to take it.
  6. An even better idea would be to use a purse hook. This is a convenient little invention that keeps your handbag off of the floor. All you have to do is keep the purse hook in your handbag and when needed, place it on the edge of a table so that you can always keep an eye on your bag. I purchased mine from this site.

Have you ever had someone try to pick-pocket you or steal your handbag? What did you do when this happened? We are always interested in what you have to say, especially if you have any other tips that haven’t been mentioned in this post.
