Alert student brings Pinetown housebreaker to justice in one of two arrests

Quick reactions by members of the public led to two successful arrests of housebreaking suspects in the Upper Highway area this week.
A housebreaking suspect was caught, when trying to flee, in the Cowies Hill area on Thursday morning. “Our reaction officer was responding to an alarm activation and informed that the suspect had fence-hopped next door,” said Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios.
“The suspect was aggressive when confronted after he was spotted in the rear of the neighboring property. A successful arrest was made despite the fact that the suspect tried to flee,” Mathios said. The trespasser was taken to Pinetown SAPS for processing.
In a separate incident on Tuesday a school pupil’s alert observations and quick thinking, while walking to school, led to the arrest of an attempted housebreaking-suspect in the Pinetown area. “Our control room swiftly responded after receiving a panic-alarm activation at about 7.45am on Tuesday morning,” Mathios said.
“When our reaction officer arrived at the scene he called for backup and the housebreaking suspect was successfully apprehended and arrested.” There was no sign of forced entry and initial investigations showed no sign of anything taken. The trespasser was arrested and handed over to Pinetown SAPS for further processing.
“The schoolboy and resident in both incidents must be applauded for reacting quickly and preventing a criminal act from occurring,” Mathios said. “Members of the public should contact their security service provider or SAPS immediately if they notice any individual behaving in a suspicious manner. It is best not to confront the suspect but take note of important details which can be used to identify the individual later.”
