Pinetown man killed in hijacking

A Moseley Park man was shot and killed in a hijacking in Seaforth Road yesterday evening.
Blue Security managing director Henk van Bemmelen said a local resident had alerted the company to the incident after realising that a hijacking had taken place. “A couple was walking their two dogs in the public park just after 6.30pm when they noticed two suspects walking towards their parked Hyundai,” he said. “The victim went to investigate and confronted the suspects which resulted in a struggle, leading to one of the hijackers shooting him in the chest and in the eye before fleeing with his vehicle. Paramedics declared him dead at the scene,” he said.
Pinetown SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
Van Bemmelen urged motorists to comply with hijackers to reduce the risk of being physically attacked as it was often when victims resisted that criminals became more violent. “We advise motorists to rather follow hijackers’ instructions and allow them to take the vehicle once passengers and any children have been removed from the car. If children remain in the back seat, tell the hijackers, without looking at them closely that you are first going to remove your children before they take the vehicle,” he said.
“Make sure that you do not make any swift movements with your arms that could unnerve the hijackers and ensure your hands are visible and not behind your back which could indicate that you have a hidden weapon,” he said.
