Armed Response

While conducting routine patrols along Syringa Road, a patrol officer observed two suspicious individuals carrying a backpack that appeared unusually heavy. Upon noticing the patrol vehicle, both individuals became visibly agitated, raising further suspicion.
The officer stopped and engaged the individuals, requesting permission to inspect the backpack. Upon inspection, the bag was found to contain copper pipe pieces and a hammer. The individuals were unable to provide a reasonable or lawful explanation for being in possession of these items.
A further search of the individuals revealed knives concealed on their persons. Assistance was immediately requested, and additional security support responded to the scene. Confirmation was received that copper pipes had been stolen from a nearby residence in the area.
The suspects were safely restrained, and SAPS was dispatched. The recovered exhibits were handed over to the attending SAPS member. The property owner was informed, positively identified the stolen copper pipes, and conducted an inventory confirming the theft. The client then proceeded to the police station for further processing.
The suspects were transported for detention and have since been processed, pending allocation of a case reference number.
