Queensburgh Jogger Held at Knifepoint: Mugger Chased and Detained

A businessman was held up at knifepoint and robbed by three men early on Friday morning while opening his premises near Sydney Road, Umbilo. And in a separate incident in Queensburgh, armed response officers detained an alleged robber, after he held up a woman while she was jogging and fled with her cellphone.
“Blue Security reaction officers responded to a call-out shortly before 6am and arrived at the scene to find the proprietor fortunately unharmed after the incident,” said Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios. “The owner had been opening up the premises when the gang of three men overpowered him, threatened him at knifepoint,” he said. “They then proceeded to rob him of his cellphone, wedding ring and cash before making their escape,” he said. Umbilo SAPS attended the scene and investigations are continuing.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident a theft suspect was successfully apprehended in Queensburgh on Friday morning after a cellphone was stolen from a jogger at knifepoint. Since level 3 of lockdown began, serious and violent crimes have been on the rise. Now that we are allowed to exercise during any time of the day, we urge that residents practice these seven simple measures to avoid falling victim to muggers.
“Blue Security reaction officers responded to a call out received just after 8am reporting that a female jogger had been held up at knifepoint by two suspects, while jogging along Piet Retief Road in Queensburgh,” Mathios said.
“On arriving at the scene, the officers saw members of the community chasing two men on foot,” he said. “The officers joined in the chase and were successful in apprehending one suspect and detaining him until members of Malvern SAPS arrived at the scene,” he said. “The stolen cellphone was recovered and the jogger was fortunate to not sustain any injuries,” he said. The suspect was handed over to SAPS for processing.
