A quick response by Blue Security armed response officer and the police led to the arrest of a suspect, following a housebreaking in Farningham Ridge, this morning.

Arrest made in Farningham Ridge
The suspect was arrested in the early hours of this morning for being in possession of a stash of goods, including a bicycle Garmin which he had allegedly fished out of the window of a property. An armed response officer had patrolled the neighbourhood in search of the suspect following the housebreaking that was reported to the company. The arrest occurred at around 4am.
The officer spotted the suspect carrying a black bin bag on the corner of Winston Churchill and Heaton Nichols Roads. Six pairs of tekkies, which had allegedly been stolen from two properties in the neighbourhood, and a car sound system were also recovered from the suspect. The suspect and recovered goods were handed over to Pinetown SAPS at the scene.
In a separate incident, a suspect who was attempting to break into a vehicle was arrested in Amanzimtoti this morning. Blue Security tactical ambassador Eugene Engelbrecht said the firm received information from the Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) that a vehicle was being broken into in Elcock Rock. The arrested occurred at around 6.30am. “Our officer responded swiftly to the scene where he found a suspect who was busy trying to break into the vehicle though the driver’s door using a sharpened Allen key,” Engelbrecht said.
“When the suspect spotted the armed response officer he threw the Allen key towards a nearby bush and attempted to flee the scene. The officer gave chase and arrested the suspect,” he said. The suspect was handed over to the Amanzimtoti SAPS for processing. Engelbrecht commended the officer for his swift repose to the scene which led to the arrest.
“Working closely together with the community, the CCPO and police we have achieved many successes in the Amanzimtoti area in recent weeks. We believe every community member has a role to play in the fight against crime from reporting suspicious behaviour and vehicles to taking the time to open up a case for incidents, even lesser crimes, such as trespassing, which left unchecked can eventually escalate into housebreakings,” Engelbrecht said.
