Response officers rescue lost dog from Pinetown petrol station

lost-dogA Blue Security armed response officer stepped in to help a lost dog that was found wandering around the parking lot of a petrol station in Pinetown last night.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said a man who had spotted the dog, a well-fed looking pitbull terrier, flagged down the armed response officer just before midnight.

“The officer approached the dog, which appeared to be in good condition and very friendly,” Mathios said. Mathios said the armed response officer had contacted him and his wife Nikki, the owner of Pinetown Pet Rescue who responded to the scene.

“We sent out notifications on our social media groups that the dog had been found but have not yet received any information regarding who
the owners might be. We unfortunately had to hand the dog over to the Kloof and Highway SPCA until its owner can be located. The officer later discovered that the dog had been hanging around the garage for about two hours before he intervened,” Mathios said.

He said the armed response officer was considering adopting the lost dog to give him to a family member if the owners cannot be found.

“Unfortunately, pitbull terriers are in high demand for dog fighting and if we had left him in the street it might have been just a matter of time
before he fell into the wrong hands and landed up in a dog fighting ring,” he said.

Mathios added that the volunteer group had received numerous reports of dog thefts in Durban in recent weeks and cautioned residents to keep there dogs inside the house at night.

In a separate incident another Blue Security armed response officer saved a resident’s furry friend from drowning in the pool while the dog was home alone and jumped in the pool. Click here to read more about the incident.
