Armed Response

Two Blue Security armed response officers were lucky to escape a shooting uninjured when they disturbed a gang of robbers in Westmead this morning.
Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said the shootout occurred when the officers responded to an alarm at a business premises in Albizia Place at 5.27am. “Our officers arrived to find the driveway gate had been derailed. They overheard a suspect saying ‘security has come’ before several shots were fired in their direction,” he said. “They jumped out of their vehicle and took cover below an embankment across the road, as about four or five robbers came out of the business premises in a navy VW Jetta and continued to shoot at them. One of our officers returned fire, but the robbers managed to flee the scene.”
Jackson said eight computers and a CCTV monitor and recorder were reported stolen, and the company’s vehicle was damaged during the shootout.
The robbers had forced open a door and security gate to gain entry into the building. “Pinetown SAPS and forensic experts attended the scene of the crime. Fortunately there were no injuries reported,” he said.
Jackson said a case of attempted murder and armed robbery had been opened at the Pinetown police station.
