Armed robbers hold up Umhlanga father and son in search of safe
An Umhlanga father and his son were lucky to escape an armed robbery unharmed on Friday evening.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said a gang of four armed robbers arrived at the Kingston Drive property in a Silver Jetta at around 6.50pm. “The resident was expecting a client to arrive, so when the suspects rang the doorbell he assumed it was the client and opened the driveway gate. Four armed suspects then ran into the house and held up the resident, demanding to be shown the safe,” Mathios said.
“The resident advised them that he did not have a safe. They then took the client’s son upstairs and ransacked the bedrooms, grabbing jewellery, a handbag, a cellphone, a television, a laptop and car keys before fleeing the scene. No injuries were reported,” Mathios said.
Mathios cautioned residents to be vigilant and to always make sure who is ringing the bell before opening the gate.
Durban North SAPS and Durban North Crisis Care volunteers attended the scene of the crime.
