Armed Response

A Sherwood motorist was hijacked outside a property in Adams Crescent last night.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said the motorist was standing outside the main entrance of the property with a friend at around 8.20pm, when a gang of hijackers driving a navy blue Renault Clio pulled up next to them. “Four suspects jumped out of the vehicle, two of them produced firearms, and ordered the victims to lie down on the floor. They robbed the victims of a cellphone and house keys, and fled in the motorist’s vehicle,” Mathios said.
Mathios advised residents to be vigilant and not to stand and chat or say goodbye to guests as they arrive or leave a property, because driveways are hotspots for hijackings.
“Criminals do sometimes stake out their victims before striking, but opportunistic criminals are also on the lookout for people in vulnerable situations where they can easily swoop on their victims. Rather say your goodbyes indoors and behind closed gates to prevent a potential hijacking situation,” he said.
