Armed Response

A Blue Security armed response officer was lucky to escape uninjured when armed robbers fleeing the scene of an Umhlanga home invasion fired a shot at him today.
Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said the armed response officer had disturbed the gang at the scene when he responded to a panic alarm activation in Ridge Road at around 3.30pm.
“A gang of six armed robbers forced open the security gate and front door of the property and held up the domestic worker at gunpoint. They ripped a safe containing cash, jewellery and gold coins off the wall,” Jackson said.
“Our officer then arrived on the scene, disturbing the gang, which jumped into a white Ford Focus and fled the scene. They fired a shot at his vehicle as they sped off towards the M4 freeway,” he said.
Netcare Paramedics and Durban North SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
“No injuries were reported, although the domestic worker was traumatised and received assistance from a Durban North crisis team,” Jackson said.
