Shots Fired in Berea Home Invasion: Suspects Arrested in Joint Operation

A member of Berea SAPS came under fire on Friday when investigating an armed robbery at a home in the area.
“The police officer had arrived as four armed suspects were attempting to flee on foot and in a getaway vehicle,” said Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios.
“The suspects had earlier attacked the homeowner as he had arrived home and driven into the yard. The external beams had been deactivated whilst he did so, which was when the four armed men accosted him,” Mathios said.
“The gang held up the resident, his daughter and an employee whilst they proceeded to ransack the house,” he said. “Events escalated as the robbers were fleeing the property. A SAPS member had just arrived at the address and came under fire as the men left the house,” he said.
“Two of the suspects were arrested in a successful joint operation between SAPS and Blue Security units. Two more suspects are still at large. Two TVs, a laptop and cellphone were stolen in the home invasion,” he said. “No injuries were sustained but CPF members were at the scene to provide counselling to the victims. Investigations are continuing,” he said.
