Armed Response

Blue Security armed response officers, police and neighbourhood watch and community members collectively apprehended six suspects in separate incident arrests across Durban at the weekend.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said neighbourhood watch members and the police gave chase and arrested two suspects, who are allegedly linked to armed robberies in Everton Road and Madeline Drive in the Highway area on Saturday afternoon.
The robberies occurred in the early hours of the morning. “Neighbourhood watch members chased the suspects into Gillitts and cornered them between Edward Road, Sheila Place and Sandra Place where the SAPS and Metro Police arrested them. A stolen laptop was recovered. The suspects were taken to Hillcrest SAPS for questioning,” Mathios said.
Mathios said staff at a petrol station in Clare Estate had also arrested a suspect who had attempted to steal a taxi that was parked at a petrol pump at 10.50pm on Saturday night. “The driver of the taxi had left it parked at the petrol pump, waiting to be refueled, with its keys still in the ignition. The driver had gone into the convenience shop to buy something to eat,” Mathios said. “As the thief attempted to drive off with the taxi, it crashed into another taxi parked at the garage which then crashed into the forecourt shop, shattering the glass windows. Garage staff rallied around the vehicle and arrested the suspect who was handed over to Sydenham SAPS members at the scene,” Mathios said.
Blue Security armed response officers arrested two alleged thieves in central Durban and on the Berea at the weekend.
An officer pounced on a burglar in Hospital Road on the Point at around 3.50pm on Saturday. “Our officer spotted a suspect jumping over the gate of a property with stolen car parts, which he then took further down the road to place with goods he had stolen early. Our officer arrested the suspect and took him and the stolen parts to Point police station where a case was opened,” Mathios said.
Mathios said an officer responded to the scene of a crime in Holstead Gardens on the Berea where a suspect had stolen a rubber cover from a car that was parked in the road on Friday at around 12.10pm. “Our officer gave chase, arrested the suspect in Problem Mkhize Road and recovered the stolen cover. He was handed over to Berea SAPS at the scene,” Mathios said.
Mathios said the sixth suspect was arrested on the Bluff in Nerissa Road after he had attempted to break into a vehicle at 7am this morning. “A resident spotted the suspect tampering with the vehicle and our officer tracked him down, arrested him and handed him over to the Brighton Beach SAPS at the scene,” Mathios said.
