Blue Security has warned business owners to be vigilant following a worrying spike in armed robberies at business premises across the city over the past few days.
Jackson said gangs of armed robbers had targeted business premises in broad daylight and in one case they had followed an employee from the bank before robbing him, while other gangs had held up and robbed security guards at night.
He said robbers had followed a Hillcrest employee from the bank back to a business premises in Kassier Road in Hillcrest at around 10.20am on Monday. “The gang, which was driving a white Jetta 4, held him up at gunpoint when he arrived at the delivery entrance of the business and robbed him of R2 000 in cash. No injuries were reported,” he said.
Hillcrest SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
Jackson said a large gang of armed robbers had also held staff at a business in Main Road in Northdene at around 1pm on Monday. “A gang of around seven armed robbers held up the business owner and staff and robbed them of cash and cellphones. The gang fled in a white Mitsubishi with no registration plates. No injuries were reported,” he said.
Malvern SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
Jackson added that armed robbers also held up a security guard at a business premises in Williams Road in the CBD just before 10pm on Monday night. “Two armed robbers approached the security guard while he was in the guard house and robbed him of two cellphones and cash,” he said.
Umbilo SAPS attended the scene of the crime. Jackson said the incidents were the latest in a spate of armed robberies that had targeted businesses and service stations.
