Staff followed and robbed after banking errand

Blue Security has warned business owners and staff to be vigilant when driving to the bank, especially around month end.
The company’s marketing manager Darren Lategan said armed robbers held up staff outside a business premises in Henwood Road in New Germany after following them from the bank last week Monday at 4.19pm.
“Three staff members went to the bank to cash a cheque for an undisclosed sum of cash and three men driving a silver grey VW Jetta followed them back to the business premises,” Lategan said. “The robbers drove into the driveway behind them and jammed the gate before jumping out of their vehicle and robbing a staff member of the cash.”
Lategan urged business owners to brief staff on security especially around conducting banking at the end of the week and at month end. “We advise business owners and their customers to conduct as much of their banking as possible electronically, because it is far safer than risking being robbed while transporting cash to and from the bank,” he said.
“Criminals operate outside business premises and banks and stalk their victims to establish movement patterns before striking. If you do need to regularly bank cash, make sure that you vary the days and times for trips to the bank and always ensure that there is no-one following you when you leave and return.”
