Strong security teamwork leads to multiple weekend arrests

strong-security-handcuffsStrong security teamwork and vigilance lead to multiple arrests in the Phoenix, Jacobs and Glenmore areas at the weekend.

Six alleged thieves were arrested after they attempted to steal stock from their employer’s business premises in Parthenon Street in Phoenix at the weekend.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said a vigilant store manager had spotted the suspects stealing the goods on the business’s CCTV surveillance camera at around 8.20pm on Saturday. “The suspects were spotted placing the items, valued at around R2800, into their bags around closing time. An onsite security officer arrested the suspects and handed them over to the Phoenix SAPS who attended the scene of the crime,” Mathios said.

In a separate incident strong team work between a security guard and an armed response officer led to the arrest of a trespasser in Hime Street in Jacobs at around 1.15pm on Saturday.

“Our armed response officer arrived at the scene in time to spot the suspect jumping over a wall of the property into Hime Street. The officer and an onsite security guard gave chase and arrested the suspect who lashed out violently and bit our officer on his arm,” Mathios said. “The suspect was handed over to Wentworth SAPS at the scene of the crime.”

He added that an armed response officer recovered stolen goods that were taken from a property in Fielden Drive in Glenmore at around 12.30pm on Sunday.

“The officer responded to the scene of the crime where community members assisted him with a description of the suspect and advised him what direction he had fled in. The officer attempted to track down the suspect who had fled into Stellawood Cemetery but he managed to evade arrest. The officer recovered goods, a gas cylinder and trays, which the suspect had abandoned in the cemetery and handed them back to the resident,” Mathios said.

Upon investigation it was established that the suspect had broken the window of a basement storeroom and forced open the burglar bars to gain entry.
