Armed Response

Swift teamwork by a Blue Security armed response officer, the police and business managers led to the arrest of a suspect who was found hiding on an Umbilo business premises in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said two of the firm’s armed response officers responded to the scene where a trespasser had broken into a business premises at around 4.35am. “The officers checked the perimeter of the property and upon investigation it was found that the electric fence at the back of the property had been cut, although the front area of the property appeared to be in order,” he said.
“But when the client and officers viewed CCTV surveillance camera footage on site, they determined that the suspect had gained entry onto the premises but he had not yet exited. The officers and police searched the premises and one of our officers found a suspect hiding in the warehouse. He was arrested and handed over to the police at the scene of the crime,” Mathios said.
Mathios said the arrest highlighted the importance of businesses using technology, such as CCTV surveillance cameras, to assist them in the fight against crime. “CCTV surveillance cameras provide business owners with an additional layer of security for their business premises and assist security firms and the police with crime intelligence that can aid their investigations in the event of an incident. It’s important to work closely with your security firm which can assess your premises to ensure that CCTV surveillance cameras are erected in strategic positions,” he said.
In a separate incident at a business premises in Manors, Pinetown staff members arrested a suspect for stealing batteries from trucks parked on the premises. The incident occurred at around 7pm on Saturday. “The suspect was handed over to the Pinetown SAPS who attended the scene of the crime,” Mathios said.
