Suspect Intercepted Following Copper Theft Incident in Kharwastan

 Date: 26 May 2026

Area: Kharwastan

A Dedicated Armed Response Officer assigned to the Kharwastan area was conducting routine patrols along Peguin Street when he was approached by a community member reporting water gushing from a nearby property.

Upon arrival at the premises, the officer discovered that piping had been stolen, resulting in significant water flow from the property. Immediate action was taken to secure and shut off the water mains in order to prevent further water loss and additional damage.

The officer engaged with nearby residents and successfully obtained a description of the suspect believed to be involved in the copper theft. The information was promptly circulated to the Tactical Response Team for further investigation.

Shortly thereafter, Blue Security Tactical members together with the dedicated Kharwastan Armed Response Officer located a male matching the description provided. The suspect was stopped and searched, during which tools commonly associated with copper theft were discovered in his possession.

The reporting community member positively identified the individual as the suspect involved in the incident.

Members of the South African Police Service were contacted and attended the scene. However, due to insufficient evidence available at the time, the suspect was released with a formal warning.
