Arrested suspects allegedly sold stolen ladder to motorist for R100

A Blue Security armed response officer arrested two suspects in Athlone Park after they stole a ladder from a house in the suburb in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said the armed response officer had received a tip off after a resident reported that she had seen two suspects walking along Kingsway Road carrying a ladder. The incident occurred at around 1.09am.
“The officer responded to the scene and spotted two suspects walking over the N2 freeway towards Orient Park. He gave chase and managed to arrest the suspects who claimed that they had sold the ladder for R100 to a motorist who had stopped on the side of the highway and was busy repairing his vehicle,” Mathios said. “The officer went back to the spot where the suspects claimed they had sold the ladder, but the motorist had already departed. It emerged that the ladder had been stolen from a property in Hudd Road. The suspects were handed over to the Amanzimtoti SAPS.”
In another incident later in the day, police arrested an armed robber after he stabbed a pedestrian during an attempted mugging in Kingsway Road at around 3.50pm. “The suspect asked the pedestrian for a cigarette and after he gave him one, he stabbed the victim in his arm and demanded cash before fleeing on foot. The suspect then attacked another pedestrian, hitting him in the face. The victims declined medical treatment,” Mathios said.
Amanzimtoti SAPS attended the scene and arrested the suspect.
Mathios added that an Amanzimtoti resident was mugged after he arrived home at around 2am on Sunday morning and walked down his driveway in Dingwall Road to close his gate. “A suspect accosted him at the gate and mugged him of an undisclosed sum of cash. The resident put up a fight and sustained minor scratches during the incident. The suspect fled the scene on foot,” Mathios said.
