How collaboration and sharp response led to a successful vehicle recovery of a hijacked TLB on 13 May 2025

On 13 May 2025, a hijacked Tractor Loader Backhoe (TLB) was successfully recovered in a high-alert operation involving Blue Security’s Tactical Unit, SAPS, and a partnered vehicle tracking company. The incident unfolded along the R603 in Illovo, where suspects had managed to jam or disable the TLB’s tracking signal.

The breakthrough came when a Blue Tactical Officer, during a routine patrol in Mobeni Heights, observed a TLB emerging from dense bush near the roadside. Recognising the suspicious movement, the officer discreetly followed the vehicle towards Lamontville while gathering photographic evidence for verification.

Once confirmed as the missing TLB, the information was relayed to the vehicle tracking team and SAPS, prompting a coordinated search.

Rapid response and shared intelligence make the difference

Acting swiftly, Blue Security’s Tactical team, together with tracking operatives and SAPS, launched a thorough sweep of the Lamontville area. The hijacked TLB was eventually located, parked in a residential yard—remarkably just 100 metres from the Lamontville Police Station.

Blue Security’s CCTV monitoring division played a pivotal role in identifying a possible suspect and their vehicle through real-time footage, further strengthening the case.

“The recovery of this TLB demonstrates the effectiveness of proactive patrolling, integrated technology, and collaboration with law enforcement,” said Stephen Wimborne, Commercial Director at Blue Security. “Our Tactical Officers are trained to respond swiftly and think critically in complex situations.”

“This operation is a clear demonstration of how public-private partnerships can lead to meaningful results. We remain committed to supporting SAPS and other role players in the fight against crime,” Wimborne added.

The recovered TLB was handed over to Lamontville SAPS for further investigation.
