Perseverance Pays-off: Tactical Nabs Wanted Housebreaker Evading Arrest

Five brushcutters, a lawnmower and a bicycle were some of the items recovered in a combined operation between Blue Security Tactical Team and SAPS Hillcrest on Friday in the Molweni area.
“The items were some of many which have been removed in multiple housebreakings recently in the Crestholme/Waterfall suburbs,” said Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios. “One suspect was apprehended and arrested during the successful operation which occurred as a result of intelligence received. As more leads are being followed up it is believed that more stolen goods will be recovered and further arrests are pending,” he said.
Perseverance Pays-off: Tactical Nabs Wanted Housebreaker Evading ArrestIn a separate incident the arrest of a much-wanted suspect and the recovery of two stolen laptops in Amanzimtoti was also the result of valuable intelligence received.
“A Blue Security tactical officer was following up leads in a housebreaking incident which occurred in Amanzimtoti just over a month ago,” Mathios said. “The suspect had gained access to the home in April by breaking a window. He then escaped with two laptops,” Mathios said. “The suspect had been evading arrest for more than four weeks, but was successfully apprehended on Friday while he was sleeping,” Mathios said. “A SAPS detective accompanied the tactical officer to the suspect’s home in Amanzimtoti early on Friday to make the arrest,” Mathios said.
A suspected geyser thief was apprehended and arrested and stolen property recovered on Tuesday by Blue Security reaction officers in Athlone Park, south of Durban.
“The incident occurred at around midday when the officers responded to notification that suspects had been spotted on a property in the area,” Mathios said. “Closer investigation revealed that a geyser has been removed from the premises,” Mathios said. “A coordinated search got underway in the surrounding bush, together with Metro Police, SAPS and members from another security provider,” Mathios said.
“The search proved successful with one suspect being flushed out of the area and arrested. The stolen geyser was also recovered,” Mathios said. Residents are also warned to be extra vigilant when their gate buzzers are rung by members of the public. “Ensure that the identity of the visitor is confirmed before opening the gate,” Mathios said.
“This advisory follows an incident on Thursday when an intruder scaled a neighbour’s fence after buzzing the gate of a Durban North home,” Mathios said. “Quick response by a nearby patrolling Blue Security officer saw the fence-hopping trespasser successfully apprehended and arrested,” Mathios said. Durban North SAPS attended the scene and transported the suspect to headquarters for further processing.
