It’s been a busy month-end Friday for Blue Security reaction officers and Tactical Teams as three housebreaking suspects were apprehended and arrested in separate incidents in Kloof, Pinetown and Durban North respectively.
“Our tactical team, in collaboration with members of Pinetown SAPS, responded to an alarm activation in Jerome Drive, Kloof this morning,” said Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios.
“The chase began when one of our patrolling units saw the suspect jumping over a wall. When the suspect realized he had been spotted he took off. “Meanwhile a description of the man was circulated to other officers in the area and the bottom of Jerome Drive (near the M13) was blocked off.”
The suspect was successfully cornered, apprehended and arrested a short while later by members of the Blue Security Tactical Team and transported to Pinetown SAPS, escorted by the SAPS Detective branch.
In a separate incident in New Germany in the early hours of Friday morning a residential housebreaking suspect was spotted by a Blue Security reaction officer removing a plasma screen from inside a home. “Our unit member was responding to an alarm activation just before 3am when he saw the suspect in the house,” Mathios said.
After calling for backup and alerting the home owner, who was not on the property at the time, the reaction officers entered and searched the property. “Two plasma screens had already been taken down from the wall and stacked, ready for removal,” Mathios said.
“The officers then heard noises from inside the ceiling and, on further investigation, realized the suspect had escaped into the roof. One of the officers managed to handcuff the man and removed him from inside the ceiling.”It was established that the suspect had gained entry to the house by removing tiles on the roof. “He was arrested and taken to Pinetown SAPS for further processing,” Mathios said.
In the third incident, a residential housebreaking occurred overnight at a home which was being fumigated in Durban North. “Our reaction officer had been investigating an alarm activation and observed a man, who said he was visiting an employee, on the premises,” Mathios said.
“The homeowner, when contacted, confirmed that no-one should be on the property as it was being fumigated. After the keyholder arrived, providing access to the officer, the suspect was arrested.” It was later established that the suspect gained entry by forcing the main gate. The homeowners had been in the process of moving out. Nothing was taken.
The trespassing suspect was transferred to Durban North SAPS for further investigation.”Homeowners are reminded to constantly check or upgrade their security arrangements in and around the home. “Always advise your security provider of changes to routine (or if not being at home for an extended period). “Security patrols of the area can then be stepped up for this reason, “Mathios said.
