Armed Response

Blue Security armed response officers made three arrests and recovered stolen goods in separate incidents on the Berea last week.
Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said an alert armed response officer had sprung into action when he noticed a suspicious looking individual carrying scaffolding jacks along Ferguson Road on Wednesday morning. “Our officer approached the man who told him that he was working at a site in Umbilo Road. Our officer then took him to the site and rang the intercom to speak to the owner who advised that there were no renovations taking place. The man then turned and fled the scene but our officer gave chase and arrested him and returned the stolen goods to their owner,” he said.
Umbilo SAPS attended the scene of crime and detained the suspect.
Jackson said a second arrest took place in Wedgwood Crescent in Umgeni after an armed response officer chased and arrested a burglar. “A resident reported that two alleged burglars had jumped over the back fence and entered the property through a sliding door before fleeing with cameras, jewellery and other goods. Our officer arrested one of the alleged burglars in a nearby park,” he said.
Jackson added that a fence hopper was arrested in Venice Road at around 7.12pm last Tuesday evening. “He had been seen jumping over fences in Hollander Crescent before he fled to a property in Venice Road where he was arrested and handed over to the Berea SAPS,” he said.
Jackson commended the hard work of the reaction officers. “We are determined to be proactive in the fight against crime and to going the extra mile to eradicate crime from our neighbourhoods as these brave officers have demonstrated,” he said.
