Fighting back against crime with three business burglars arrested

Swift response by a Blue Security reaction officer, a vigilant businessman and an alert store staff member lead to the arrest of three suspects in separate incidents in Pinetown, New Germany and Stamford Hill over the weekend.
Quick response to a panic alarm at a business premises in Pinetown led to the arrest of a burglar on Friday.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said an armed response officer responded to the business in Josiah Gumede Road at around 12.30am on Friday morning. “The burglar gained entry onto the premises through a top level toilet window, which he had managed to force open. He was still inside the building when our officer arrived at the scene,” Mathios said. “Our officer immediately arrested him and handed him over to the Pinetown SAPS who took him into custody.”
Mathios added that a businessman arrested two suspects who had allegedly stolen cellphones from a company vehicle in Grantham Place in Stamford Hill on Saturday. “The suspects broke into the vehicle which was parked on site, and grabbed cellphones which were inside the vehicle. The businessman spotted the suspects on the premises, apprehended them and handed them over to Durban Central SAPS,” he said.
In a separate incident in Otto Volek Road in New Germany, Mathios said a vigilant staff member arrested a shoplifter on Sunday morning. “The staff member spotted the suspect stealing chocolates and arrested him when he walked out of the shop without paying. Thirteen slabs of chocolates, which he had hidden inside the sleeve of his jacket, were recovered,” Mathios said.
Pinetown SAPS attended the scene of the crime and took the suspect into custody.
