Cape Town traffic officer honoured after narrow escape

A Cape Town traffic officer was honoured for going above and beyond the call of duty after he had a narrow escape. Nizaam Alexander was issuing a fine while conducting a routine patrol when a suspect approached him from behind and unexpectedly opened fire at point blank range.

The quick thinking officer stayed calm and collected while he returned fire and gave chase. Unfortunately the perpetrator managed to escape and Alexander simply continued his work before giving his injury any attention. Thankfully he wore a bullet proof vest, which allowed him to avoid serious harm.
