Attempted Underground Cable Theft Prevented in Ashley/Caversham

Incident Report: Attempted Underground Cable Theft Prevented

Location: Forrest Road, Pinetown (Ashley/Caversham Glen area)

An alert Blue Security Armed Response Officer (ARO) prevented an attempted underground cable theft during a routine patrol.

While conducting routine patrols along Forrest Road, our ARO—assigned to the dedicated Ashley/Caversham Glen vehicle—spotted suspicious movement along the roadside. He immediately stopped to investigate and witnessed a suspect fleeing the scene.

Upon closer inspection, it was found that a manhole cover had been lifted and an attempt had been made to remove underground Telkom cabling. In the suspect’s haste to escape, he abandoned a cellphone and a block-and-tackle pulley system used to lift the heavy cable.

The equipment and scene were secured and handed over to members of SAPS Pinetown for further investigation.

Thanks to the vigilance of our ARO, a major infrastructure theft was prevented. The evidence recovered has been passed on to SAPS for follow-up.
