Armed Response

A member of the public was shot and seriously injured in New Germany on Thursday morning while standing outside a bank, waiting in line to go inside.
“The incident occurred after an unsuspecting customer was approached by an unknown amount of suspects while standing in the queue outside the building,” said Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios.
“The suspects demanded cash from the man. One of the gang was carrying a firearm. A shot was fired in the victim’s direction hitting him in the stomach,” Mathios said. “Paramedical emergency services raced to the call-out for assistance. Due to the nature of his injuries a helicopter from Netcare 911 was summoned to the area and landed shortly thereafter,” he said.
“The patient was stabilised by paramedics at the scene before being transported to a nearby medical facility for further treatment,” he said. “The suspects were observed jumping into an awaiting getaway vehicle which headed off in an unknown direction,” he said. Traffic was affected in the area to allow the helicopter to land and take off. SAPS Pinetown attended the crime scene and investigations are continuing.
