Armed Response

A vigilant Blue Security armed response officer arrested a 23-year-old suspect and recovered a loaded firearm and blood stained shirt in Pinetown at the weekend.
Blue Security managing director Henk van Bemmelen said the officer was was on duty near Heaton Nicholls Drive when he spotted three suspects on foot behaving suspiciously just after 3pm on Friday afternoon. “He noticed a suspect signalling to two other suspects to follow him as he walked towards Winston Churchill Road, after coming up from under a bridge on the M7 Highway. Our officer started his vehicle and slowly followed them, focusing on one of the men who was carrying a bag.”
“He approached the men and two of the suspects fled on foot across the M7 Highway, but he managed to arrest the third suspect who was armed with a firearm. He also found a black shirt with a blood stain on it in the suspect’s bag,” he said.
The suspect was handed over to the Pinetown SAPS at the scene of the arrest.
Van Bemmelen said the company was committed to proactive policing of the community. “We commend the dedication and bravery of our officer who was vigilant and proactive in single-handedly effecting this arrest, which may well have thwarted the armed gang from going on to commit a serious and violent crime in the suburb.”
