Armed Response

While conducting routine patrols along the Higginson Highway near Mobeni Heights, a Blue Security officer observed a male behaving suspiciously along the roadside. Sensing that the activity was out of place, the officer turned back to conduct a routine stop-and-check.
During the engagement, the individual was found to be in possession of multiple copper pipe pieces and brass taps. When questioned, the suspect was unable to provide a reasonable explanation for the items or account for their ownership.
Backup was requested from a nearby response vehicle, which confirmed that it had just attended to an alarm activation at a property close to the location. Officers proceeded to the address, where water was found gushing from the premises.
A closer inspection revealed that copper pipes had been forcibly removed from the property. Notably, the paint markings on the stolen pipes matched those found on the items recovered from the suspect, directly linking him to the crime scene.
The suspect was immediately detained, and the Blue Security Control Room dispatched SAPS to the scene. The affected client was informed of the developments and advised to proceed to the police station to open a formal case.
The suspect and recovered exhibits were handed over to SAPS for detention and further investigation, with the relevant SAPS references issued for processing.
This incident underscores the importance of vigilant patrols, effective inter-unit communication, and rapid response in combating infrastructure-related crimes such as copper theft, which have far-reaching impacts on communities.
