Vodacom Durban July: SA’s Greatest Horse Racing Event Goes Digital

Just as we were starting to think that we would never get to enjoy another 2020 social event, the Vodacom Durban July threw us a curveball! This year, South Africa’s greatest horse racing event is embracing the digital space by hosting the event and broadcasting it live on the VDJ website, social media platforms, and DSTV.

Without forgetting one of the most memorable elements of the VDJ event – the fashion leg of the race will still take place but will also be hosted digitally. With the surprising 2020 theme being “butterflies“!
Fashionistas who prepared for this event months in advance will still be able to showcase their outfits on social media. Their butterfly-themed ensembles will be commented on by the VDJ’s panel of experts so that fans can participate from the comfort of their homes and still maintain social distancing protocols.

“We have secured a very experienced panel of top fashion designers to contribute to the live streaming show and VDJ fans will be asked to submit photos and videos of the outfit they would have worn to the big race day and these will be scrutinised and commented on by our expert panel… Everyone wants their outfit to be seen on Vodacom Durban July day. This year we are using technology and creativity to make that possible,” said Vodacom Durban July’s communications and media relations officer, Dave Macleod.

The event will take place on the 25th of July 2020, at Greyville Racecourse, and will all be hosted behind closed doors with no spectators on the stands. Strict COVID-19 government regulations are being adhered to for the safety of fans and participants.

Gold Circle, together with the ongoing support of the company’s valued sponsor, Vodacom, is fully committed to running the 2020 Vodacom Durban July. Sadly, given the reality of the present circumstances, the race meeting will be staged behind closed doors and without spectators,” said Gold Circle CEO, Michel Nairac.

To make sure you are ready for the digital event of the season, get those butterfly-themed outfits ready with your most popular poses, a good camera, and a strong internet connection to keep you tuned in to all the live broadcast action. The 2020 Vodacom Durban July is going to be a day to remember and there is only a month to go. So, find your winning horse and jockey duo and let the fun begin!
