Have you been a part of the project since day one or are you a new member to the crew? Either way, this page will provide you with a run down of how and why the Waterfall 3 Blue Zone came into existence and inform you of the endless benefits that project members have access to.
How and where was the W3BZ initiated?
Waterfall 3 residents noticed the positive impact that sharing Blue Security’s dedicated vehicle with Crestholme residents had on creating more security presence to assist in deterring criminals.
It was now time for WF3 NW to rally members to signup to the Waterfall 3 Blue Zone project in order for the project members to benefit from their very own dedicated vehicle in Waterfall.
Once the agreed upon number of project members were reached, the Waterfall 3 dedicated vehicle and Community Policing Officer were launched in the area in September 2018 and have roamed the roads to keep residents safer ever since.
- Inanda Road and Juluka Farm road are quick and convenient escape routes for criminals to flee the scene after committing a crime and run off into the various townships close by or onto a road leading all the way down to Wyebank and eventually into Clermont or Molweni (Both Clermont and Moyeni being notorious havens where criminals hide out).
- Criminals using the vast expanses of bush to enter the neighbourhood, rob houses and easily escape back through the bushes
Why was the W3BZ initiated?
It all began with proactive crime concerned Waterfall 3 residents deciding that there was more that could be done to keep their neighbourhood safe. Crime in the Waterfall 3 area became prevalent 41 years ago when it consisted of only a few houses. Proactive residents looking to protect their surroundings began building forts concealed up trees (similar to tree houses) to carry out their operations to catch criminals and prevent future crimes from being committed. It was during this time that the Waterfall 3 Neighbourhood Watch was formed, known as “WF3 NW” for short.
Crime evolved very aggressively between 2010 and 2011 and the number of violent home invasions were increasing steadily. Property entrances were being kicked in and residents were facing threatening intruders that possessed harmful intent.
A good crime-fighting working relationship developed between the Crestwatch Neighbourhood Watch , also known as Crestwatch and the WF3 NW.
This relationship continues to grow as the Blue Security dedicated armed reaction vehicle presence has been shared between the two communities since 2012.
Currently 216 members can see the safety benefits of having a dedicated vehicle and CPO patrolling their specified footprint and encourage the residents of Waterfall to join the project to increase their security.
The more you think about the benefits of having a CPO patrolling an area over and above an Armed Response Officer, the more benefits come to mind.

Think about the worry and angst that would be lifted off of your shoulders knowing that if you’re feeling uncomfortable driving home from work that you could call the CPO to follow you home. How comforting would it be to know that just by dialing the number of the CPO he can follow you from a specific point that you decide on and make sure that you get home and into your house safe and sound?
There is no doubt that Waterfall 3 residents can see the endless value in being a part of the project to reap the rewards of the dedicated CPO on the street looking after members all day everyday.
