Security guard assaulted during Westville home invasion

Armed robbers assaulted a security guard during a Westville home invasion in Williams Road and fled with jewellery and other valuables on Saturday afternoon.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said a suspect had approached the gate of the property and asked the security guard to allow him to enter the premises to do some work on site. “The security guard opened the gate slightly and stepped outside to speak to the suspect when a second suspect jumped out of a vehicle parked outside and held him up at gunpoint,” he said.
“The suspect pushed him back onto the premises and assaulted him while other gang members derailed the driveway gate and drove their vehicle onto the property. They smashed a window to gain entry into the house and fled with two laptops and two safes containing jewellery, watches and Kruger coins,” Mathios said.
Westville SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
