Open your eyes to Durban’s scenery, your mouth to Durban’s exquisite street food and ears to our city’s intriguing entertainment at the Smarket Street Feast!
The Smarket Street Feast invites all Durbanites and tourists to the fortnightly event on 8 Morrison Street, The Precinct. It is open to as many people that would like to join!
You might think that all these little artisan markets that are sprouting up all over our areas as a more laid back form of entertainment. However, there is a bigger vision to these little markets and that vision is the rejuvenation of Durban’s CBD. The vision is to bring back the inner city vibrancy while providing a platform for local traders to expose their brands, create their business and possibly launch traders from the streets into their own shops and restaurants.
You may not know this, but over the past year the Smarket Street Feast has developed an ethos of creating self-sustaining entrepreneurs around the Durban area. Some of these successful street food stalls are Roti and Chai, Po’Boys and The Elite Taste.
Roti and Chai are most famous for really bringing out their roots with zesty spices and authentic Indian food with an artisan street spin. They are famous for their Tandoori meats, vegetables, seafood and wraps.
Now, the best part about these little markets is the variety! Next up, you can give Po’Boys a try. Po’Boys was invented in the 1920’s by the Martin Brothers and are known for their simple yet delicious food. I would recommend to choose either the quarter-chip and cheese or the California chicken with their homemade peanut butter pesto – winner winner chicken dinner!
Lastly, embrace The Elite Taste that also trades at the market. The Elite Taste is also located in Lilian Ngoyi Road (if you decide to take a look at their shop) and are most famous among Durbanites for their steak fries, freaky shakes, ice teas and oh so sweet mocktails.
If this variety is not enough to get you there, should I mention that:
Hope to see you there!
