Armed Response

Blue Security has warned parents to be vigilant when transporting children to school after a woman hijacked outside a local school last week Friday reported the incident. Blue Security marketing manager Darren Lategan said a woman who runs a lift club at a school in Sea Vview was hijacked after she arrived to drop children at the school at 7.49am.
“Hijackers fled in her vehicle which had a puncture, so they eventually abandoned it in Monument Road where the police later recovered it and handed it back to the owner. No injuries were reported,” Lategan said.
He urged residents to be vigilant when dropping off and fetching children from school as criminals preyed on victims who were distracted on the road. “If you sense that you are being followed when driving to and from school, rather take a detour to the nearest police station than take a chance, as criminals stake out the area and their victims before striking,” he said. “Before pulling up outside the school, make sure that there are no suspicious individuals loitering in the vicinity where you need to stop. If you do notice anything that makes you uneasy, report it to the school’s security guard or management immediately.”
Lategan advised parents not to leave vehicles unlocked or any valuables in view when parking outside the school. “Criminals just need a few minutes to smash a window and grab a cellphone or laptop that is in view so rather take your valuables with you to the gate,” he said.
Lategan added that it would also be more difficult to succeed with an insurance claim if valuables were left lying around in plain sight.
